Official launch of BRAC Ghana Savings and Loans Limited (BGSL) in Accra

We marked a milestone yesterday with the official launch of BRAC Ghana Savings and Loans Limited (BGSL) in Accra. The launching ceremony was graced by the presence of representatives from the Bank of Ghana, government dignitaries, development partners, and clients of BGSL.

The guest of honour Osei Gyasi, Director, Banking Supervision Department, Bank of Ghana in his remarks said, “If women are given access to capital, if women are trained, if they are taught to keep proper records, I think we will move very far. This is what BRAC is bringing on board. I’m sure with this start they will help us move the savings and loan sector forward.”

Meanwhile, Shameran Abed, Executive Director of BRAC International in his remarks said, “Microfinance is an integral part of BRAC’s holistic approach to development, equipping people with the tools to invest in themselves, their families, and their communities […]  In Ghana and across the region, we are committed to growing and deepening our presence to deliver impactful solutions for the poorest and most vulnerable”.

Bridget Dougherty, Managing Director of BRAC International Holdings B.V., recognised the dedication of staff in Ghana who have been working closely with communities to understand their needs and forging a partnership that fosters resilience and prosperity.

Kojo Baffoe-Eghan, CEO of BGSL, shared the vision for BRAC in Ghana to serve 200,000 clients over the next five years, with over 95% being women.
