Practical Pathways to Coaching in Graduation Programmes

A framework to provide evidence-based guidance on programmatic design to implementers

Building on global evidence and BRAC’s own implementation experience, this resource develops a comprehensive framework to analyse and guide the design of coaching within government-led Graduation programmes. Adapting the seven key coaching variables proposed by Sumanthiran and Roelen (2023)—including session size, contact frequency, caseload, staffing, contact type, support tools, and coaching tasks—the framework translates research insights into practical, context-specific recommendations.

The tool aims to help programme designers identify trade-offs, select suitable modalities, and strengthen coaching delivery sustainably. It remains dynamic, evolving with new evidence and experience. Ultimately, the framework encourages a shift from prescribing a single model toward enabling high-quality, adaptable coaching that maximises participant outcomes within real-world resource constraints.
