BRAC began its journey in Kenya in 2019 when we set up the Africa Regional Office in Nairobi. It is the regional hub that oversees programme operations in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Liberia, Ghana and Sierra Leone.

Kenya has the largest economy in East Africa and is home to many international nonprofits. That’s why BRAC chose Nairobi for its regional office. Being based in Kenya allows us to work closely with partners and respond faster to local needs. Overall, it means better support for our programmes across Africa.

Rooted in local leadership and knowledge, impact is meaningful, responsive, and efficient.

Kenya is home to BRAC International’s Africa Regional Office, our regional hub for operations across the continent. Our team in Nairobi oversees operations in six countries: Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Liberia, Ghana, and Sierra Leone. The office is strategically located to better understand and respond to the unique needs of each country where we work.

BRAC Kenya employs experts who know the local markets, cultures, business practices, and community needs. They provide valuable insights into designing more impactful programmes throughout Africa. The regional office responds to local needs efficiently and effectively. With staff based in Kenya, we can make decisions quickly and stay in close communication with country teams.

BRAC doesn’t work in communities or for them—we work as part of communities. Our strength and sustainability come from proximity and a shared reality. This approach has taken root in more than 15 countries—not through replication, but through adaptation to local realities.

Financial Inclusion

When women have access to financial services, they invest in brighter futures for themselves, their families, and their communities.

BRAC Kenya Company Limited has received a Digital Credit Provider licence to begin operations, with plans to launch in 2026. We will provide responsible financial services to people who are left out of the mainstream financial system. In particular, we will focus on women living in poverty in rural and hard-to-reach areas of the country.

Our core credit products will include group-based microloans. They will be provided to women and small enterprise loans for entrepreneurs seeking to grow their businesses. We will also explore solutions to fulfil the unique financial needs of rural small-holder farmers and youth across Kenya.

We complement our services with financial and digital literacy training. This empowers clients to make informed decisions and better manage their finances. We adhere to the Universal Standards for Social and Environmental Performance Management and the Client Protection Principles. This places clients’ wellbeing at the centre of everything we do to achieve our mission.
