BRAC began its journey in Kenya in 2019 when we set up the Africa Regional Office in Nairobi. It is the regional hub that oversees programme operations in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Liberia, Ghana and Sierra Leone.
Kenya has the largest economy in East Africa and is home to many international nonprofits. That’s why BRAC chose Nairobi for its regional office. Being based in Kenya allows us to work closely with partners and respond faster to local needs. Overall, it means better support for our programmes across Africa.

BRAC Kenya employs experts who know the local markets, cultures, business practices, and community needs. We provide valuable insights into designing more impactful programmes throughout Africa. The regional office responds to local needs efficiently and effectively. With staff based in Kenya, we can make decisions quickly and stay in close communication with country teams.
BRAC doesn’t work in communities or for them—we work as part of communities. Our strength and sustainability come from proximity and a shared reality. This approach has taken root in more than 15 countries—not through replication, but through adaptation to local realities.
