From cultivating mulberry plants to producing finished silk products, BRAC Sericulture creates livelihoods for thousands of women while preserving Bangladesh’s centuries‑old traditions of silk production.

Since 1976, we have brought together tradition and innovation to make silk farming a strong source of income in rural Bangladesh. Thousands of producers are now engaged in mulberry farming, silkworm rearing, cocoon production, reeling, spinning, weaving, and dyeing. We support the whole chain with access to technical training, financial services, and guaranteed fair prices.

BRAC Silk | woven with our own thread

BRAC Silk is an emerging brand under BRAC Sericulture, dedicated to producing high-quality silk textile from scratch and preserving Bangladesh’s heritage. Our vision is to serve consumers both nationally and internationally. These products reach customers through Aarong.

Connection with Aarong | from village to market

We partner with Aarong, BRAC’s retail brand, to bring these silk products from rural villages to outlets nationwide. They are crafted into silk sarees, dupattas and scarves, and are worn by thousands of people across the world.

Bangladesh has a growing demand for silk—around 300 metric tons each year—yet local production currently meets only about 41 metric tons.

We support producers to tap into this enormous potential and supporting the sector to expand and innovate, to ensure Bangladesh's rich silk heritage is preserved and continues to be celebrated.
